'We were moving up to the Northern
Beaches in Sydney (and why wouldn't you [commute aside] - it
is gorgeous up here) and were looking for temporary accommodation
in case we needed it. The caravan park near Narrabeen Lake /Lagoon,
LakeSide I think it's called, looked like a good spot so I emailed
them and enquired if they had any discount rates. We could have
been there for a few weeks so we wanted to get the best deal
possible. The email that came back was just the same as the
listed prices on their website. So, almost as an after thought,
I type in the Caravan Parks name into the Hotel Club website
and the rates were significantly cheaper. As it happens we never
went through with it as we managed to find a rental property
in time. But I would certainly advise anyone who is about to
book a vacation or holiday to try their website before you book.
Seems dum of the caravan park not to tell me there had specials
on and I suspect other operators are equally economic with the
truth if they feel they can get away with it" Colin
Wilber Station in Gulargambone
We went on a recent family holiday to the country.
We booked the farmhouse
at Wilber Station in Gulargambone. I know, next question: "Where
the *&%$ is
that?" It is between Coonamble and Gilgandra and 40 minutes
west of the
Warrumbungle National Park, about 6 hours from Sydney. We found
the old
homestead to be full of memories as well as wonderful views.
The house is a
1920's homestead; wrap around verandas, slab preparation table
in the
kitchen, swimming pool (water tank cut in half), tennis courts
(just a tad
below Wimbledon standards), yabbies a plenty, dress up clothes
for the
littlies. or the not so little, BBQ, plenty of space and activities
to keep
even our five teenage boys and girls occupied.
Our host: Sandra Kelly was wonderful (and the
leg of lamb we brought home
with us was yummy!) Wilber is a working sheep, cattle and wheat
farm. You
can help with the farm, or not; you can hike in the Warrumbungle's,
or not;
you can visit the town, or not; as Wilber Farmhouse motto says;
Do as little
or as much as you please.
IBIS Hotel, World Square, 382 - 384
Pitt Street, Sydney 2000 - 02 8267 3111
I booked the IBIS Hotel through Virgin Holidays.
The IBIS was very good, reasonably cheap, close to the touristy
stuff (between Liverpool and Goulbourn Streets), good service
and nice clean rooms.

IBIS Hotel, Sydney Airport, 205 O'Riordan
Street, Mascot, Sydney NSW 2020, 61 (0)2 8339 8500
The rooms at the IBIS Hotel at Sydney Airport
are on the small size but modern, clean and of excellent quality.
I found it amazingly quiet and relaxful. The restaurant was
better than expected. Staff are polite and friendly.
Finally we thought we'd 'cheat' and list an
unsolicited review from a user of sister site Sydney100.com.
I wanted to say thank you for your incredibly
helpful and informative website. I am
going to Sydney for a long weekend next week to catch the last
A-league game of the
season and wanted to see a bit of the city while I was there.
I googled Sydney and
came up with very useless, (presumably Government sponsored)
websites that told me
where the 5 star accommodation and the pricey restaurants were
and little else.
Your website has given me some great ideas, loads more than
I can fit into a
weekend, but hey, everyone loves choice.
So cheers from this Melbournite and all her mates and keep up
the stellar work.
